Testimonials
Marika Kuzma is a consummate musician, the combination of refined musicianship and natural artistry. Her choruses reflect her careful and precise direction, always with impeccable tone and intonation. However the most impressive is her choruses' diction. Too often choruses are simply praised for diction if the vowels are shaped correctly and consonants present. Marika's choruses on the other hand always have pure comprehension in mind, not only accurate diction, but a cadence in the flow of the words that shows thought towards the meaning and direction of the text. Marika's instruction is efficient, encouraging, and always moving the chorus towards the highest of musical standards. Fantastic for single sessions and masterclasses and long term projects alike.
—Maestro Ming Luke, Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra
In working with singers in the San Francisco Girls Chorus School’s top training level, Dr. Kuzma used her years of conducting experience and deep knowledge of the choral repertoire to inspire our choristers and help them understand their songs more fully. She engaged their bodies, voices, and minds in exploring choral music, and kept even these young singers working at a quick pace and high musical level. I have also personally experienced her interweaving of healthy vocal technique and acting with choral studies to great dramatic effect. Dr. Kuzma tries to help choirs and their individual singers to understand and utilize the myriad tools from her vast experience to reach audiences and connect them to music through the voice.
